Master's Degree Programme in Biology of Physical Activity

The MasterBPA programme educates academic experts who understand the interactive mechanisms between different physiological systems and physical exercise, and their theoretical background. The programme is designed to prepare students for careers in research centres, medical rehabilitation centres, sports medicine and exercise testing centres, sports academies and physical exercise and sports organisations. It also qualifies students to apply for postgraduate studies in the field.

The master’s thesis will be constructed in the form of a scientific paper with the aim of publishing it in an international peer-reviewed journal.

Applications for Master's Degree Programmes can be submitted once a year in January. The next call for applications is in January 2025.

To complete the programme, you must earn 120 ECTS credits. Studying full time, you will graduate within 2 years.  

Applications for this master's degree programme can be submitted once a year in January, and once accepted, your studies will begin in September. From this programme you will graduate with a Master of Sports Sciences.

The programme offers three possible fields of specialisation to choose from: Exercise Physiology, Science of Sport Coaching and Fitness Testing and Biomechanics.

The students come from all over the world and also the teachers have a great deal of international experience.  Students have frequent possibilities to attend lectures by internationally recognized scientists from all over the world. 

Career

The programme is designed to prepare students for careers in research centres, medical rehabilitation centres, sport medicine and exercise testing centres, sport academies and physical exercise and sports organisations. Graduates of the programme are also qualified to apply for PhD studies at the higher education institutions in the field.

In order to be eligible to international master’s programmes at the University of Jyväskylä, applicants must hold (or must complete by our deadline) a bachelor’s degree, master's degree or equivalent from a recognised institution of higher education. Please note also, that all applicants, even native speakers, must demonstrate their English language proficiency in one of the ways mentioned in the admission criteria.

The online application form will be available in the Studyinfo.fi portal only during the application period. In addition to the online application form, the applicant needs to submit the required attachments mentioned in the programme-specific admission criteria and on the application form.
