Orientation programme for degree students

The Orientation Programme, organized jointly by the University of Jyväskylä and the Student Union, is designed to help new international students settle in and get to know each other, the University and the City of Jyväskylä. It is our way to say “Welcome”.

Tuesday 29 August

Check-in desk

A chance to pick up a certificate of registration and a user license to the university computer network if you have taken care of the registration in advance. You can also get a ticket to the Rector’s reception.

Welcoming words from Mari Ikonen, Director of Academic and Student Services. Come and meet the staff of the Student Services and see where the other international students come from. Coffee and tea is served before the session at 9.00-10.00.

Wednesday 30 August

Opening Fair

9.30 – 16.00 Agora building

Meet representatives of the University, the Student Union, student organizations, NGOs, associations, the City of Jyväskylä and local businesses. This fair is targeted at all students. You may stop by at the fair any time between 9.30 and 16.00 except during the orientation sessions.

EduFutura Rowing Event

Event opens the season of Academic Sports of Jyväskylä. Come and join us to cheer University of Jyväskylä's and Student Union's rowing teams to the victory!

New and old students alike are welcome to this welcome picnic to enjoy the relaxed programme, music and light refreshments.

Be early! Limited seating available.

All new degree students are invited to a reception hosted by the rectors of the University of Jyväskylä. Semmarit, a male show choir which has its origins at the University of Jyväskylä, will give a live show during the evening. Collect your ticket from the orientation check-in desk on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Introduction to the services of the Finnish Immigration Service, Register Office, Social Insurance Institution and Central Finland Health Care District

In this information session representatives from the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri), Register Office, Social Insurance Institution (KELA) and the Central Finland Health Care District will talk about the services they provide for international students. It is also possible to ask questions. The session is organized by the Student Union.

Events after the orientation week

Thursday 7 & Friday 8 September 10.00 – 15.00 International Office (T-building)

Register with the Local Register Office (Maistraatti) and get a Finnish personal identity code. Please bring your passport or European ID card, your residence permit card (if you are coming from outside the EU/EEA/EFTA area), and your certificate of registration at the university. Please note that EU citizens should also register the EU citizen's right of residence in Finland through Migri, the Finnish Immigration Service. More information here.
