Orientation programme for exchange students

The Orientation Programme, organized jointly by the University of Jyväskylä and the Student Union, is designed to help new international students settle in and get to know each other, the University and the City of Jyväskylä. It is our way to say “Welcome”.

Monday 3 September

Rectors' Greetings to New Students and Semmarit in Concert

18.00 Lounaispuisto (park opposite to the University Library)

All new students are invited to this event hosted by the rectors of the University of Jyväskylä. Semmarit, a male show choir with origins at JYU will give a live show during the evening. Exchange students can enter the event by showing a letter of admission at the entrance. If you are not an exchange student, please ask for a ticket from your tutor. Only limited seats available, so be early!

Tuesday 4 September

Lease Signing for Kortepohja Tenants

8.30-11.00 Kortepohja accommodation office, Vehkakuja 2 B. 

If you live in Kortepohja, please stop by at the accommodation office to sign your tenancy agreement.

Opening Fair

9.30 – 16.00 Agora building

The Opening Fair is a great way to get acquainted with other students, the Student Union and the activities to be found at JYU and in the Jyväskylä region. Also a possibility to pay for your Survival Kit and purchase a ticket to the Student Union Opening Party at the Student Union booth.

Academic Sports' uMove Workout

Saturday 8 September

The kickstart of the Academic sports, uMove Workout, takes place on 8 September in building L (Liikunta), U2 sports hall and gyms in Rentukka and monitoimitalo at Hippos. No pre-registration needed. The event is free of charge and you can use gyms with your student card or certificate of registration (Rentukka 7 am - 11 pm and monitoimitalo 10 am - 2 pm).

Local Register Office

Wednesday-Thursday 12-13 September

The Local Register Office (Maistraatti in Finnish) visits JYU on Wed and Thu 12-13 Sept. Please take this opportunity to get a Finnish personal identity code which the university requires from you and which you may also need for different services in Finland. These documents are needed when requesting for the personal identity code:

  • Passport (citizens of non-European Union countries)
  • Passport or ID card (citizens of European Union countries)
  • Residence permit card (citizens of non-European Union countries)
  • Certificate of registration (pick up from the check-in desk)
