Orientation programme for exchange students

The Orientation Programme, organized jointly by the University of Jyväskylä and the Student Union, is designed to help new international students settle in and get to know each other, the University and the City of Jyväskylä. It is our way to say “Welcome”.

Tuesday 3 September

 

Check-in desk

9.00 – 11.00 Main building C, lobby

A chance to pick up a certificate of registration and a user license to the university computer network. Please bring your ID! Also a possibility to have your certificate of arrival signed, pick up a ticket to Semmarit consert on Tuesday evening, and meet representatives of the IDESCO - International Degree Student Community, Erasmus Student Network, AIESEC and Jyväskylä Entrepreneurship Society. Coffee and tea served at 9.00 - 11.00.

Welcome!

Rectors' Greetings to New Students and Semmarit in Concert

18.00 Lounaispuisto

All new students are invited to this event hosted by the rectors of the University of Jyväskylä. Semmarit, a male show choir with origins at JYU will give a live show during the evening. You can pick up the ticket from the check-in desk on Tuesday at 9-11. Only limited seats available, so be early! Please bring your ticket.

Opening Fair

11.00 – 16.00 Agora building

The Opening Fair is a great way to get acquainted with other students, the Student Union and the activities to be found at JYU and in the Jyväskylä region. Also a possibility to purchase a ticket to the Student Union Opening Party at the Student Union booth.

Lease Signing for Kortepohja Tenants

Opening hours: Monday 2.9. 8-16, Tuesday 3.9. to Thursday 5.9. 10-15, Friday 6.9. 8-12

If you live in Kortepohja, please stop by at the accommodation office to sign your tenancy agreement. Possibility to pick up Rentukka-card in order to use common facilities such as gym and study rooms.

Library Tour

13.00 - 14.00 Mattilanniemi Library (MaA building) and Ylistönrinne Library (YK building)

Most of the library services, including course books, journals and reading room materials, are available at the Mattilanniemi Library (Ahlmaninkatu 2, MaA building). The Ylistönrinne Library stores general research literature. During the tour, you will learn, for example, how to search for, find, loan and return books, where to study and do group work and how to copy, print and scan. The tour is guided by tutors.

JYUnity Fest

15.30-22.00
The crowning jewel of the opening of the academic year is the JYUnity Fest on Wednesday 4 September! On Wednesday 4 September, the whole university community is welcome to take part in our unique celebration. The JYUnity Fest for both students and staff members features a variety of performances, art and music, yummy food and games. We will treat you with prosecco bars, kyykkä/mölkky tournaments, Semma's picnic menu and JYYs fun programme at Ilokivi. The full programme will be announced in August.

Introduction to Finnish Society

To support navigating and settling in Finland and Jyväskylä, this session offers a brief look to the Finnish society. Session provides especially information on the systems education and integration as well as opportunities to find helpful guidance on these either through local or online services.
