Student Union membership and student card / exchange and visiting students
Exchange students will be registered automatically at the University of Jyväskylä based on the information given in Mobility-Online. Visiting students should return the registration form, which will be sent together with the letter of admission, to the International Office no later than 1 August/1 December. Registered students who are members of the Student Union may apply for a student card.
Benefits available for student card holders
Joining the Student Union is voluntary for exchange and visiting students. Joining the Student Union will entitle you to a wide range of services and benefits and it is therefore in your best interest to join. Those who have joined the Student Union can purchase a student ID. With the student card, you can get, for example, the following benefits:
- health care at the Finnish Student Health Service
- student-priced meals in student cafeterias
- 30% off the price on trains and and 50% off the price on l.
These benefits and discounts are available for Bachelor’s and Master’s level students only. For a complete list of benefits, please see the Student Union website.
Doctoral students may join the Student Union and purchase a PhD student card if they wish. In doing so, they are entitled to the support services of the Student Union but do not have the right to the discounts and benefits described above.
All student card holders (Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral level students) have also an access to various discounts offered by shops, businesses and service providers in Jyväskylä and nationwide. For more information, please see the discounts section at https://frank.fi/en/.
How to join the Student Union and obtain a student card
Join the Student Union and obtain the student card as follows:
Pay the Student Union membership fee and request or print a receipt of the payment. The fee is paid by the University of Jyväskylä on behalf of ISEP, FIRST, UNC-EP and North-South-South exchange students. If you are a bilateral exchange student, please check from your letter of admission if the fee is paid on your behalf. Erasmus, Nordplus, Nordlys, Becas Chile, Science without Borders and visiting students should pay the fee themselves.
While paying, please use the following information:
- Amount / academic year 2016-2017: 130.50 €/academic year 2016-2017, 75 €/autumn semester 2016, 77 €/spring semester 2017 (doctoral students: 66 €/academic year, 44 €/autumn semester, 44 €/spring semester).

Please note that the payment should be made without charges to the beneficiary.
If you wish to pay the fee by card or by cash once you have arrived in Jyväskylä, the fee can also be paid at the the Central Office of the Student Union at Keskussairaalantie 2.
Upload the receipt of the payment into Mobility-Online no later than 1 August/1 December (only applicable to Erasmus, Nordplus, Nordlys, Becas Chile and Science without Borders students) or send it by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org if you are a visiting student.
