Student Union membership and student card / exchange students


Exchange students will be registered automatically at the University of Jyväskylä based on the information given in Mobility-Online.Registered students who are members of the Student Union may apply for a student card.

Benefits available for student card holders

Joining the Student Union is voluntary for exchange and visiting students. Joining the Student Union will entitle you to a wide range of services and benefits and it is therefore in your best interest to join. After you have joined the Student Union, you can purchase a student card. With the student card, you can get, for example, the following benefits:

These benefits and discounts are available for Bachelor’s and Master’s level students only. For a complete list of benefits, please see the Student Union website.

Doctoral students may join the Student Union and purchase a PhD student card if they wish. In doing so, they are entitled to the support services of the Student Union but do not have the right to the discounts and benefits described above.

All student card holders (Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral level students) have also an access to various discounts offered by shops, businesses and service providers in Jyväskylä and nationwide. For more information, please see the discounts section at

How to join the Student Union and obtain a student card

Join the Student Union and obtain the student card as follows:

Step 1

Pay the Student Union membership fee and print/download a receipt of the payment or request one from your bank. The fee is paid by the University of Jyväskylä on behalf of ISEP students. If you are a bilateral exchange student, please check from your letter of admission if the fee is paid on your behalf. Erasmus+, Erasmus+ Global, Nordplus, Nordlys, Becas Chile, FIRST+ and visiting students should pay the fee themselves.

While paying, please use the following information:

  • Amount / academic year 2019-2020: 133.50 €/academic year,
    76 €/autumn semester, 79 €/spring semester
    (doctoral students: 66 €/academic year, 44 €/autumn semester, 44 €/spring semester).

Please note that the payment should be made without charges to the beneficiary.

If you wish to pay the fee by card or by cash once you have arrived in Jyväskylä, the fee can also be paid at the the Central Office of the Student Union at Keskussairaalantie 2 during the opening hours of the office.

Step 2

Upload the receipt of the Student Union membership fee payment into Mobility-Online no later than 1 July (those admitted for the whole academic year or the autumn semester) / 1 December (those admitted for the spring semester). This applies only to Erasmus+, Erasmus+ Global, Nordplus, Nordlys, Becas Chile, FIRST+ and some bilateral students.

Step 3

If you have uploaded the receipt into Mobility-Online within the above mentioned deadline, you will be able to apply for a student card after your study period at the University of Jyväskylä has begun. Please see here for the detailed instructions on how to apply for the student card.
